After over ten years of ground work, the Cameroon Association of Curriculum and Assessment (CASCA) has seen the light of day. It was officially launched at the premises of the University of Buea (UB), Thursday, 21 March 2024.
The launching ceremony held at the UB ASTI conference room under the theme “Curriculum and Assessment: the driving force behind quality Education”. It brought together curriculum stakeholders across the Education ministries of Cameroon.
In the inaugural address, Prof. Emeritus Leke Tambo widely known as the father of Curriculum Studies in Cameroon pitched the organization as a stitch in time. He advised the frontline leaders on how to make the organization sustainable and financial beneficial to it’s members.
Operating in the midst of imposing challenges, the Emeritus Professor cautioned CASCA on fruitful paths. “…You have to work your way in. You have to be demand driven and not supply driven. Remain as a unit, a family.”
The Cameroon Association of Curriculum and Assessment is led by a caretaker team. Its president, Peter Tambi Agborbechem is Professor of Tests and Measurements and Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Bamenda. He said the organization is a platform to improve on teaching, learning and share best practices.
“CASCA is an organization we conceived to see how we can come together to improve on the transferability of education in Cameroon from one set to another. We shall have a forum where we can exchange notes, research findings on issues of curriculum and do best practices in assessment in Cameroon and the world over” Prof. Peter Agborbechem highlighted.
Prof. Margaret Endeley Nalova closely aids as Vice. She is a Professor of Curriculum Studies and Teaching; Dean of University of Buea’s faculty of Education. She said the association intends to contribute to “quality in curriculum development activities by partnering with the ministries of Education, other governmental organizations, non-governmental organizations, and examination boards.”
At the CASCA launch, UB’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ngomo Horace Manga underscored the importance of the launch on the University campus. He reminded members that their roles remain critical in advancing the mission of the University just like other learning establishments. The newly created CASCA intends to attain its objectives by organizing research activities, carrying out consultances and discussions with stakeholders.
