The Minister of Secondary Education, Prof. Pauline Nalova Lyonga has lamented over the state of roads in Buea, chief town of the South West Region.
The member of government who hails from the area expressed her dissatisfaction during an official visit to Buea to launch the 31st edition of the Vocational and Technical Educational Open Day.
The event which held at the premises of the Government Technical High School, Molyko Buea on Thursday, 14 March gave Minister Nalova Lyonga an opportunity to ride over the potholes leading to the town.
“The roads in Buea are something else, you cannot talk about it”, she interjected during her speech.
Seemingly appealing for a participatory approach to solve the road problem, the MINSEC boss reminded stakeholders present that only government efforts will not be sufficient to solve all problems.
“Ladies and gentlemen, let us remember that we have what we want and what the government can do. The government cannot do everything. So we have to plan” Prof. Nalova exhorted.
She went on to emphasize the need for rehabilitation to fit the previous image of the town. “Those roads are not roads for human beings. That is not how Buea was. Why do we want Buea to be like that?”
Many denizens of Buea on their part have expressed their desire to see the existing roads rehabilitated and others tarred inorder to increase the flow of traffic into and around the town.
Buea, battling insecurity from non state actors, fast rising prices, scarcity amongst others; the wish of many is in Minister Nalova Lyonga’s conclusion, “Long live the South West region in a better way, not as it is now.”
