29-year-old Naby Keita has been completely suspended by Werder Bremen until end of season.
He will not train or play with the team and has equally been finedAccording to Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz, the former Liverpool player refused to travel for the club’s Bundesliga clash with Bayer Leverkusen after discovering he had been omitted from the starting line-up.
A statement on the club’s official website said: “Werder Bremen have suspended Naby Keita until the end of the season.
The club have also handed the midfielder a substantial fine.
The club’s director Clemens Fritz also stated: “Naby’s behaviour is intolerable for us as a club. With this action, he let his team down in a tense sporting and personnel situation and put himself above the team.”
Keita however refuted the accusation in a response on Instagram, claiming Fritz was attempting to “tarnish his image”
Keita joined the club as a free agent on a three-year deal last summer following the expiry of his contract at Anfield
