Some youths have been drilled on how to thrive within the demanding and competitive entrepreneurial market.
This was during a conference dubbed “building business leaders for a sustainable economy” organized by Youth on Purpose.
The conference which held Friday August 18, 2023 brought together youths and entrepreneurs from various works of life.
Ateki Seta Caxton, founder of the NewSETA NGO schooled the participants on entrepreneurship and business creation.
The NewSETA boss established the difference between an entrepreneur and entrepreneurship.
“Entrepreneurship is one of those key things that countries need in order to keep their youths employed in the area of tech or agriculture” Ateki said.
He encouraged entrepreneurs to come together in order to solve problems as one and yield better results. He also explained how to create a business in Cameroon, giving the different descriptions and locations where they can get their businesses registered as it would benefit them greatly in the long run.
He shared the recommendations for establishing a business in Cameroon
Robinson Fontebo Sama drilled the participants on Leadership and Digital skill empowerment.
He encouraged the young entrepreneurs to be servant leaders, which according to him is the best form of leadership. “Leaders with this style serve their team and organization first, they don’t prioritize their own objectives” he said.
“A leader is someone who sees a better future and is willing to pay the price to bring that future to the present” Fontebo explained.
He also schooled the participants how to leverage on technology for business success. Amongst which he highlighted; social media presence, virtual workspaces, exploiting cloud technology, using small data, online payments, exploiting AI and ML, using an automated business process and exploiting digital marketing tools.
Ticha Bizel-Bi Mafor, a communication expert drilled the participants on how to build communication skills for emerging leaders and entrepreneurs.
She highlighted that there was a difference between communication and effective communication. As emerging leaders and entrepreneurs, Mafor emphasized that there was need to communicate effectively with their stakeholders.
Mafor pointed that communicating effectively helped to enhance teamwork and collaboration, improve relationships and increase productivity.
The participants were also drilled on how to maximize on communication tools in the digital world like emails, Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp amongst others.
Developing communication skills, Mafor noted, was not a daunting task as believed. She shared some tips such as being an active listener, writing things down before a presentation and avoiding assumptions, always crosschecking messages before sending them, avoiding short hand when sending official messages and taking public speaking courses if possible.
