The South West Youth League, SOWEYOL, is on foot to bring opportunities and help to the young persons of the South West Region.
This was the aim of the ten-man delegation to the South West Development Authority, SOWEDA led by the SOWEYOL Regional President, Esua Kisito. The visit to the organization’s headquarter in Buea happened, Friday 18 August 2023.
The youth league with Divisional executives across the six Divisions of the South West are seeking support for their back-to-school campaign and the 3rd edition of their sports tournament in December. The sports event which will include a football tournament and a marathon race will be staged at the Molyko Omnisport stadium.
Through it, they intend to bring together young people across the region, to spread unity, culture and peace through sports under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Head of Government Chief Dr Joseph Dion Ngute.
“We came to SOWEDA to have a ‘tete a tete’ with the organization because it is a mother institution in the region so far as developmental issues are concerned and considering that SOWEDA has a lot to do with agriculture,” Esua Kisito Mbong said as he made allusion to “the Head of state’s message as he encouraged the youths to go back to the farm.”
“So we are cueing in that light and since SOWEDA has lots of opportunities to offer which will make youths to be self-reliant and not depend solely on the government,” he added
On hand to receive the young delegates, the General Manager of SOWEDA, Dr. Besong Ntui Ogork congratulated the team for bravery and selflessness. Sharing ideas on how the organization can attain its aims, the GM believes the bottom-top approach of SOWEYOL is a veritable tool in their hands.
“We have given them our own idea on how they can run the back to school campaign. Some young ones in some areas have not been able to go to school and that is a concern for anyone who loves this country and the Southwest and Northwest.” Dr Ogork noted.
Due to the youth oriented nature of the organization, the GM feels the collaboration is a gain-gain move. “We have raised some points of agreement. The South West Youth League is an organization that we think has a better reach and of course the activities of SOWEDA focuses on women and children. And we wish to use the cooperation to reach out to many more young persons.”
With a positive response from the South West Development Authority, the South West Youth League plans on engaging other stakeholders for the success of the back to school campaign. More so, they plan on sensitising young persons on the agricultural facilities opened at SOWEDA as she plans to launch a credit scheme to support livestock.
The partnership between SOWEDA and SOWEYOL is set for a pedestal as the former had sponsored the last edition of the sports tournament and the All South West Youth Conference of 2022 and now promises to do more.
The South West Youth League is a regional organization created to rally the youths of the South West for the economic, political and social growth of the region. They have a goal to empower youths to be job creators and not seekers and have existed for the past three years.
