Yong Sports Academy (YOSA) of Bamenda’s hopes to clinching the Elite 1 championship has been thwarted following disciplinary sanctions given to the club.
They will see a three-point deduction and which brings them to seven points and dropping from second to sixth in the playoff rankings
This disciplinary decision comes after Yong Sports’ management, referees, and fans engaged in a heated debates over poor refereeing during their game against Canon
Biased refereeing decisions from Tanyi Shadrach and his assistants had led to a harsh penalty during their sixth day of the playoffs against Canon at the Bonamoussadi Stadium, causing a confrontation.
YOSA player Hamidou Hamza and four other team officials have been given a four-match ban for indiscipline and the club is poised to pay a fine of 1,000,000 FCFA.
It was YOSA’s second defeat following two wins , one defeat and a draw, but the spotlight has been shifted to Victoria United aka OPOPO and Stade Renard A draw for Victoria United will see them emerge 2023-24 champions of the MTN Elite One championship
This decision will have a tremendous effect on YOSA, kicking them out of the battle for the Elite One title
However, the Bamenda-based club has 5 days to appeal the verdict
