Faculty members and student leaders of the University of Buea (UB), Cameroon have exchanged with some staff of the British High Commission on mutual cooperation and UK University best practices.
Discussions took place at the ASTI conference room during a visit on Thursday, 29 February with a delegation led by the Second Secretary for Political Affairs at the British High Commission in Yaounde, Ms. Natasha Hosford.
Speaking to the press after discussions chaired by the Deputy Vice Chancellor incharge of Teaching Professionalisation and Development of ICTs, Prof. Ekonde Sone, Ms. Natasha said it was a process of understanding the opportunities, challenges and areas of mutual cooperation.
“The opportunity and potentials of utilising the power of youth and the power of research here in our wider work as the British High Commission and in the engagement with the government and some recommendations that really fit within the context of the South West.” She said.
The UK Office diplomat expressed satisfaction at the thoughts raised in which she figured out “some key areas of opportunity for greater collaboration such as the environment and the biodiversity which we have a large programme that’s just about to start on the Congo Basin Forest which we are taking Cameroon.”
Ms. Natasha Hosford also pointed out that from the deliberations, opportunities for collaboration between UK institutions and UB around research and sharing of expertise both ways were nursed.
The visit to the University of Buea was part of a broader program. Visiting the South West to find out the challenges and opportunities of those living in Limbe and Buea.
