Mukong was recognized for his medical innovation with the development of the LachoFit application.
Talking to Camer Today after receiving the award, Mukong said he is looking forward to networking and partnerships to make the app well-known and fully functional with personalized programs such as diet programs and physical exercise.
“The app is at the prototype level and the recognition makes our work credible to users and to stakeholders” he said, hoping that the app serves as part of lifestyle modifications for the prevention and management of diabetes, hypertension amongst others.
Mukong mentioned that they were already in collaboration with Global Diabetes Initiative who intend to work with them for the dieting and exercise part of the management.
The LachoFit team looks forward to providing its users with fact-checked information, fitness-related products such as food supplements, wrist-built gadgets for tracking workouts as well as health monitoring and home fitness equipment to help them in their fitness journey anywhere and anytime
The LachoFit app
LachoFit is a nutrition/fitness app, which is African-inspired and personalized to help individuals attain their health and fitness goals from the comfort of their homes.
It is a free calorie counter and diets tracker, adapted to African meals. It gives access to a fitness community and to fitness-related products (smart watches, food supplements, home fitness equipment, premium sport wears etc).
Lachofit bridges the gaps in western nutrition/fitness app with a food journal not focused on African foods/diets, by providing an African food journal (our local meals e.g okok, eru, etc) with the possibility of more accurate measurement of portion sizes for effective weight management and diets tracking.
It also increases access to health specialists (Medical Doctors, Nutritionists, and Fitness coaches) for follow-up and also guidance on healthier methods of preparing meals.
It’s difference comes in simplifying the dieting and fitness journey, so users don’t have to do dieting with foods not readily available but leverage on their own local meals without having to change but control how they prepare it, the portion sizes and keep up with healthier lifestyle choices effortlessly.
