The Super Eagles of Nigeria clash against the Palancas Negras of Angola in the first game of 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) quarter-final, aiming to reach the semis of the competition for the first time in five years.
The Super Eagles began their AFCON journey on a shaky note, recording a draw against Equatorial Guinea before securing two important wins over hosts Cote d’Ivoire and then Guinea-Bissau to reach the knockouts with seven points.
The Angolans drew with 2019 champions, Algeria before dominating Mauritania and Burkina Faso to finish top of Group D.
Nigeria has never played against Angola before in the AFCON.
This will be the first time that both teams face each other in the continental showpiece.
Nigeria goes into the encounter as one of the best in FIFA and CAF list while Angola is seen as the underdog but that’s just a statistic.
Indeed, this year’s AFCON has proven that anything could happen.
The game will start at 6:00 pm (West African Time/Nigeria time) at the Stade Félix Houphouët Biogny in Abidjan.
