Host Côte d’Ivoire have beaten Guinea Bissau 2-0 at the opening game of the 2023 African Cup of Nations at the Alassane Ouattara stadium in Abidjan.
The Elephants were quick to open their score sheet thanks to a goal by Seko Fofana four minutes into the start of the game.
Jean-Philippe Krasso then made it double in the 58th minute of the game to give Côté d’avoir a confortable win over Guinea Bissau.
The Ivorian squad put up a thrilling performance throughout the game, dominating possession of the ball by a whopping 61%.
The tournament’s draw has placed the two teams in group A, alongside Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea.
Following today’s game, the host country will lock horns with Nigeria on January 18 and Equatorial Guinea on January 2022.
Meantime, Nigeria will take on Equatorial Guinea tomorrow for the second Group A fixture.
The ongoing AFCON is Côte d’Ivoire’s 25th appearance at the prestigious tournament, second highest behind Egypt with 26 appearances.
