Samuel Loe is a Cameroonian filmmaker who has made a name for himself in the audiovisual production industry in Germany and Cameroon. He is the co-founder and technical and artistic director of Naja International Production Group, a media company that produces films, documentaries, series, and news reports.
He is also the creator of Naja TV, an online television channel that showcases African stories and realities. From exciting special stories to bold political interviews, Naja is the holy grail of quality media production.
But how did these come to be through Samuel Loe?
His passion for film started at a young age, when he was exposed to foreign media, cultures, music, and traditions. He wanted to tell his own stories and those of his continent, rather than letting others narrate them. He moved to Germany to pursue his film studies, obtaining a Bachelor of Art in Media Production in 2010 and a Master of Art in Visual Production – Digital Film Production in 2013.
Since then, he has produced, co-produced, and directed numerous works that have been broadcasted on prestigious platforms and screened at various film festivals. Some of his notable works include:
- The Nightmare of a Belief (2009), a film that explores witchcraft in Cameroon and its consequences on society. The film has been translated into several languages and has been shown in England, Germany, Austria, the USA, Poland, Serbia, and the Czech Republic.
- Sur les traces du Cameroun à Berlin (2010), a documentary that follows the history of Cameroon in Berlin after the 1884 conference when European colonial powers partitioned Africa. The documentary features interviews with historians, politicians, and activists.
- My Quest (2015), a film that depicts the struggles and aspirations of a young Cameroonian man who travels to Germany in search of a better life. The film portrays the challenges of integration, racism, and identity.
- Naja (2016), a TV series that more accurately portrays the experiences of Africans in Germany, focusing on the lives of four characters who face different issues such as love, family, career, and immigration. The series features internationally renowned actors such as Emil Abossolo Mbo, Binda Mgazolo, Félix Kama, Paulin Tadjadeu, René Tenejou and Gratia Mahop.
In 2018, Samuel Loe returned to Yaoundé, Cameroon, where he doubled down on his media production. There, he partnered with Jean Bruno Tagne, a renowned journalist and media personality, to produce several episodes of ECCE HOMO, a show that features in-depth interviews with prominent figures from various fields. The show is broadcasted on Naja TV, which also offers other programs such as news, sports, entertainment, and culture.
And it is only the tip of the iceberg.
But acting from behind the camera, has its highs and lows, including not being celebrated as often as he should. Samuel Loe is an unsung hero in the Cameroonian media, who has been able to create a successful production house that showcases the diversity and richness of African stories.
He is a versatile and talented filmmaker, who can handle any aspect of audiovisual production with professionalism and creativity. He is a source of inspiration and pride for many young Africans who aspire to follow his footsteps.
