“Sometimes bad things attract good results…” these are the opening lines in Mimie’s Soundstation EP intro.
Set for the most part on an empty beach, it features the singer taking multiple poses, her face neatly carved and covered in layers of makeup with glossy lips and thick brown lines shaded over her eyes. In one scene of the clip, she is pictured running away from the camera, her nakedness hidden by a Ndop fabric and her proud hair swirling in the wind. In yet another, she raises a toast with a drink poured from the bottle of Ballantine’s whiskey. The toast, she says, is to life, to a breath of fresh air.
Sensational, neat, relaxing and edgy are but a few of many adjectives that can adequately be drawn from the 2-minute clip.
This was the main point of focus on June 17, 2023 when the singer met with her fans and music lovers at the library of the French Cultural Institute in Yaoundé.
The celebrated Singer, real name, Melanie Ngoga used the opportunity to shed light on her latest piece of work, as well as her current career path. With Soundsation being her first EP since leaving Pit Baccardi’s Empire Music, many were on the edge of their seats, eager to have her unbox all the emotions. And that, she did.
The singer’s latest EP, Soundsation was released on May 25, and has since been making waves across the music scene. With the project being her first of its kind, many were curious to see her next steps. Going by reviews from its release over a months ago, hardly anyone would not be impressed.
But again, it was the sensation from Soundsation that grabbed the attention of many at the listening session. Quizzed on the somewhat explicit aspects of her clips, the ‘wolowoss’ singer was categorical about her love for sexy. “I like being sensual,” she stated.
She further narrated how she arrived to this point of self-confidence, revealing it is but a display of how far she has come and the challenges she has been able to defy. “I wear sexy outfits because I am sexy,” she said, unleashing a gentle smile.
Addressing worries over her working solo, she revealed that her latest project is a product of her own Mimie Nation recording house. She was however humble to admit that it is at the moment, a baby enterprise and is yet to fully develop the capacity to contain other artists seeking growth in their careers. “It is good to sign an artist but you need to cater for them financially too,” she told fans.
Mimie’s Soundsation is streaming now on Colorfol, a streaming platform dedicated to 100% African music.
