Ngwe Angel, a final year student of the University of Buea in the department of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) proved history right and her JMC 209, Photojournalism teacher a master.
She shot an award-winning photograph during the University of Buea Interschool Arts and Cultural Competition from, 25- 26 October 2023. The picture is a strategic shot of a boy and girl with lifted hands together photoed around the star on the middle of the Cameroon flag.
From the camp of the Cameroon Development Corporation, CDC in Kompina, Ngwe Angel’s passion for photography was born. Her passion goes beyond just capturing pictures.
It is painting stories in it that heal and speak positivity.
“Photography is a hobby. I love taking documentary photographs. Not just a picture but a voice out there passing out a message of Peace, Unity, Culture Tolerance and National Integration”, she states.
Groomed with three other siblings in the economically challenging walls of the CDC camps, she feels free to be the joker in the cards.
Affirming that zeal made her through, she explains that “the competition was fierce. Because I believe there were so many great artist and photographers who I think could do more than me. Considering the fact, I used my phone to take the pictures and edit. I stood for almost fifteen hours to get the right photograph.”
With a global vision, from the podium of the University of Buea Open Amphi theatre, she has picked up her first award, and a ticket to appear in the next university games. The doors to many more opportunities have been opened.
Oh my goodness. I am so so grateful for this Tatah. Marvelous right up
