Abola Timothee, the late Divisional Officer (D.O) for Ekondo Titi in the conflict-hit South West region of Cameroon will be decorated posthumously for his service to the nation. The officer was one of seven killed by separatist fighters on March 2nd, 2022 during a tour of his area of administration.
During his coffining ceremony at the Yaoundé General Hospital, Territorial Administration Minister, Paul Atanga Nji described his death and circumstances around it as a very sad situation.
“He will rest in peace but the terrorists who killed him will never rest in peace”, the administrator declared. Extending what he said were condolences from the Head of State and the Head of Government, he said the late Abola’s sacrifice for the nation will never go unrecognised.
“The head of state,” Minister Atanga Nji revealed, “has given instructions that we should accompany the family with financial assistance and he would be decorated posthumously.”
‘Pockets of resistance’
On the day he was killed, Abola was in a sensitisation tour of his sub division. The tour, Minister Atanga Nji noted, was “to tell the population and terrorists that ‘enough is enough’. You have killed too many souls and committed atrocities…”
The minister did not fail to repeat his stance on the five-year long armed conflict which resulted in the D.O’s death. What is left of the armed fighters seeking control of the country’s Anglophone regions, he stated, are “pockets of resistance”.
“Let us sit down and work together and benefit from this open door policy from President Paul Biya … [separatist fighters] still have the opportunity to lay down their weapons,” he pressed.
