With the aim of working towards the production of 10 million tonnes of Banana-Plantain annually, boosting the import-substitution policy of the Head of State, and bringing about the Emergence of all the links in the Banana-Plantain Value Chain, the National Association of Banana-Plantain Stakeholders (FBPC), is organising the second edition of the International Banana-Plantain Festival.
Taking place in the South-West region from 30th November to the 03rd of December 2023, it will be held under the Patronage of the Prime Minister Head of Government, and sponsored by the ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
In order to ensure the perfect organisation of this high-level event, the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Chief Doctor Joseph Dion Nguté, on Wednesday 04th October 2023, received in audience at the Star building in Yaoundé, a delegation of key stakeholders in the event.
They included Samuel Tony Obam Bikoué, National President of the National Association of Banana-Plantain Stakeholders (FBPC); Samuel Eto’o Fils, President of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT); the President of the South-West Regional Assembly, Zaccheus Bakoma Elango, the President of the House of Chiefs, Doctor Atem Ebako, and the CEO of Fertile Ground, Bill Cannon, the Official Sponsor of the Banana-Festival.
The highlights of the coming festival include: an opening Gala Football Match between the former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and the former Supers Eagels of Nigeria at the Limbe Stadium; the signing of Financing Agreements with Investors for the development of the four links in the Banana-Plantain Value Chain; the Festival Village in Buea, where all the economic, tourist, cultural, natural and social potential of the South-West will be showcased and presented to international investors.
An international colloquium will also be held at the University of Buea. It will shed light on the opportunities of the Banana-Plantain Sector.
As part of activities for the same event, there will be a Banana-Plantain Products Fair-Exhibition in Bangem, with the presentation of agricultural inputs and equipment for precision farming in the Banana-Plantain Sector.
The festival is expected to be one-of-a-kind, and will open up great opportunities for the inhabitants of the South West Region in general and farmers in particular.
