The Imam of the Buea Central Mosque, Shiek Mohammed Aboubakar in his sermon on Eid Mubarak, advised muslim faithfuls to participate in nation building by acquiring their voters cards and participating effectively in upcoming elections.
The muslim cleric made the call on Wednesday, 10 April 2024 during special prayers at the mosque. He challenged members of the islamic community to rise up to their own fate through the ballot box, warning that no one will do so for them.
Revision of Electoral registers for 2024 was launched in Yaounde on January 4, targeting over 500,000 new registration especially amongst youths, women and physically challenged Cameroonians.
Particularly to the youths, the Imam of Buea charged that they take the electoral process seriously. “They need to be very involved in political issues” he said.
Shiek Mohammed Aboubakar called on the faithfuls to participate effectively in the life and growth of the state to their favor by taking part in elections. “If you don’t go and register then you keep complaining who do you want to change the situation for you?”
Citing the holy Quran, the muslim religious leader explained to press men at the end of the prayer session that, “He (God) is not going to change the situation for a person until he (person) changes it by himself.”
He inspired the faithfuls that if they think more can be done, they can utilize the electoral process to achieve it.
“If you know that where you are is not good, you need to change. To changing, there is a procedure. It means you have to get registered and vote for somebody of your choice. So that there is a calendar in helping you planify the issues of the state” Shiek Mohammed Aboubakar highlighted.
In the sermon from chapter 13:2-9 with 8 other scriptures, the Imam of Buea also admonished Muslim faithfuls to have and maintain a healthy heart and not the sick or dead heart.
Six days after the Ramadan period should be dedicated to fasting inorder to maintain their spiritual power according to the books of Islam, the Imam emphasized.
In a month from now, Muslim faithful will be commemorating the feast of the ram. The offering of Ishmael by Abraham to God.
