The Mayor of Buea, Mafani Namange reports say has been sealing shops in his Municipality for respecting lockdown.
In a security meeting held a few days back, the Mayor promised to take severe measures in a bid to dissuade traders from locking their shops on lockdown days, imposed by separatist fighters.
“Any business premise which has the audacity to close down under the pretext of ghost town, we are going to help him or her to close down permanently by sealing such shops or businesses,” he said.
Reports say those whose shops have been sealed by the council will be forced to disburse the sum of 50, 000 FCFA before being able to reopen their various shops.
It should be recalled that for the past years, Monday has been considered a traditional lockdown day following instructions by separatist fighters.
Some persons who have attempted to defile the said instructions have lost their lives by either gun or arson.
The situation has left residents of Buea in a dilemma as their lives are equally at stake.
