At least 6 people died in a car crash on Sunday, May 8 at around 4:30 pm, near Ntoung village, on the Abong Mbang-Yaoundé axis. According to the Senior-Divisional Officer of the Haut-Nyong division, Joseph Bertrand Mache who visited the scene, “6 deaths have been formally counted, there is a possibility of a 7th being searched,” .
According to eyewitnesses, the accident occurred when black Prado vehicle with registration number CE 847 JD XX DD going out towards Yaoundé attempted to avoid a pothole resulting in a head-on collision with a truck with registration BG 33AGK / BG 34 AGK traveling in the opposite direction. The Prado was damaged beyond repair. The driver of the truck is currently unaccounted for. An investigation has been opened.
Meanwhile, some users have taken to social media to share their grief over loved ones presumable involved in the crash. Facebook user Serge Laye Laye wrote “Her name was Marie Josette METSENI graduated from the INJS of Ydé. Promotion 2014-2017. She has just passed away following a traffic accident along national highway 10 between Ayos and Abong-Mbang. Collision between a big carrier and a Prado. She was in the Prado that has a record of 07 deaths. Rip dear elder sister. I am speechless”.
