The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced an increase in the prize money for the winners of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2023 ) in Ivory Coast to $7 million (FCFA 4,193,661,036,149) — as opposed to $5 million (FCFA 2,995,472,168) previously.
The information of the 40 percent increment is contained in a statement released on Thursday, January 4, 2024.
Reacting to the decision, CAF President Patrice Motsepe said: “CAF has made significant progress over the past two years in increasing the Prize Money of the AFCON and all its other major competitions.
“We have increased the Prize Money of the AFCON Winner to USD 7 000 000 which is a 40% increase from the previous AFCON Prize Money” CAF President, Patrice Motsepe stated
“I am confident that a portion of the Prize Money will contribute to developing football and also benefit all the football stakeholders, as well as assist our Member Associations with their administrations.”
The competition’s runners-up will back home $4 million (FCFA 2,396,377,734) in prize money, up from $2.7 million (FCFA 1,617,554,971)
Prize money of semi-finalists and quarter-finalists have also increased to $2.5 million (FCFA 1,497,736,084) and $1.7 million (FCFA 1,018,460,537) respectively.
The 34th edition of the AFCON will kick-start in Ivory Coast from January 13 to February 11.
