Two quick goals by Hamari Traore and Lassine Sinayoko within six minutes after South Africa’s penalty miss, sealed a comfortable victory for Mali in their Group E opener of the Africa Cup of Nations.
With this result, The Eagles take the lead in Group E with three points, having a better goal difference than Namibia, who also won their game against Tunisia.
On the other hand, the Bafana Bafana of South Africa seat bottom of Group E, having conceded the most goals in the first round of AFCON 2023.
Mali’s next match will be against Tunisia on January 20, while South Africa faces Namibia on January 21.
